Heated Pitots incorporate modifications to the original VAP Pitot that allow them to accurately measure, even in conditions where most pitots freeze or begin to function less than accurately. The standard VAP Pitot has a unique Velocity Averaging and Parallel Plate proprietary design that, when inserted into air flow ducts, provides an accurate differential pressure output that allows for precise air flow measurement and control of your process. The Heated Pitot utilizes this same VAP Pitot technology to deliver an extremely accurate differential pressure output, while expanding the traditional temperature ranges handled by the original pitot. The Heated Pitot with integral heating system now allows accurate air flow measurement down to -22oF!

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Below, you can find the manuals for the Heated Pitot family of flow elements. The manuals have been divided into the Mechanical Manual for the element itself and the Electronics Manual for the use and installation of any transmitter that was purchased from Eastern Instruments.
The VAP/PA Pitot is designed for particulate-laden applications. When oriented in the PA configuration, the VAP Pitot can be placed in heavily particulate or condensate-laden environments while still measuring accurately and reliably without being prone to plugging problems.
VAP/SA (Superior Accuracy)
Ideally designed to provide accurate differential pressure outputs for precise air flow measurement in process applications, the VAP/SA is suitable for relatively clean process environments (such as clean flows or filtered gas streams), where high accuracy is required for measurement and control.
The VAP Heated Pitot can prevent the freezing of pitots down to -22o F and is perfect for regions or applications that routinely see freezing temperatures.
Minimizes turbulence at the sensing ports, preventing particulate buildup and also designed for high turn-down applications.
Velocity averaging throughout the full traverse of the duct with multiple pitot array.
Constructed from extruded 6063 series aluminum with a final process Teflon hard anodized coating, yielding a surface hardness of Rockwell 65C. Also available in Stainless Steel and PVC.
Each Heated Pitot probe can be inserted into the duct utilizing a prefabricated weld-on insertion port. When multiple probes are needed within the duct, the total and static sensing ports can be manifolded together.
Due to the streamlined, narrow cross-section of the Parallel Plate Pitot design, the Heated Pitot will not restrict the airflow, therefore there will be minimal, if not negligible, pressure drop across the measurement area. Integrated temperature elements are available to further reduce in-duct obstructions.
For installations where multiple pitots are required, one SSR is installed in the control package for each of the installed pitots meaning that you can maintain temperature control over each individual pitot in the array.
Contacts for both High and Low Temperature alarms are available in order to maintain control of the Heated Pitots to ensure that they do not freeze and that they do not overheat as well.
HEATED PITOT APPLICATIONS
Eastern Instruments' Heated Pitots have been installed in a variety of applications and in a wide range of location across the world. Especially in colder climates, the Heated Pitot is perfect for maintaining an internal temperature that is above freezing, thus ensuring that the sensing ports of the pitot are always clean and clear. Whether you need to increase boiler efficiency or obtain an optimized fluidized velocity for a fluid bed dryer, rest assured that Eastern Instruments can provide you with a system that will fit your needs.

VAP HEATED PITOT WITH CONTROLLER
The Integral Heated Pitot can be installed in clean-air or particulate-laden applications, and will typically still retain the accuracy of our original VAP (+/-2%), even when installed in locations where ice buildup is present. The heating system integrates a heat tracing element into the pitot itself so that problems with ice buildup simply...melt away. Because the pitots are not prone to freezing over, the surface area of the pitot is not affected by accuracy damaging or even flow measurement eliminating effects of ice buildup, and therefore, the accuracy of the Heated Pitot is unaffected by the onslaught of conditions like freezing rain, or even the extreme temperatures surrounding cooling towers.
The Heated Pitot comes either as an individual pitot, or an array of pitots for larger ducts. Each Heated Pitot comes with an integral heating element that is maintained by a controller which is provided. The Heated Pitot Controller can control up to 4 pitots at once and will maintain the temperature of the heater element and thus the pitot, in order to prevent ice buildup on the ports which could diminish the ability of the pitot to accurately measure flow.
